Isurus prevailed 3-1 over DETONA (8-16 Train, 16-13 Nuke, 16-13 Mirage, 16-14 Dust2) to secure a spot in ESL Pro League Season 12.
The Argentinian and Brazilian rosters were the sole sides invited to compete in the South America qualifier for ESL Pro League Season 12, both last taking part in the Latin America group of ESL Pro League Season 10 at the end of 2019 prior to its restructuring.
The swap of José "L!nKz^" Ortega for Caike "caike" Costa at the start of the month proved to pay off for Isurus as they were able to prevail over DETONA in a four-map series. After being slow to start on Train, the Argentinian squad fought back into the series with narrow wins on Nuke, Mirage, and Dust2 to score a 3-1 victory over their Brazilian competition and earn a spot in ESL's flagship league.
Train was where the battle ensued, Marcos "deco" Amato and Roberto "reversive" Themtham finding double kills to help their side start with a 3-0 lead on the T side. That edge quickly slipped once DETONA had rifles in their hands however, with the Brazilian roster taking five straight before winning out a trade of rounds at the end of the half to edge out an 8-7 lead. Hopes of an Isurus comeback were swiftly squashed as, after securing a pistol win to tie the score, they fell to a force-buy from DETONA in round 17, and from there the Brazilians quickly closed out the map with eight straight rounds.
Isurus have qualified for ESL Pro League Season 12
DETONA kicked off Nuke in good form, running up a 5-1 lead, but found themselves on the back foot before long as a stellar defense from Isurus allowed them to pull ahead by three round at the break. Nicolás "Noktse" Dávila and company then won a second round force-buy, converting ensuing rounds to run up a 14-9 lead before DETONA were able to respond. DETONA made an attempt to comeback, winning four in a row, but two final rounds from Isurus saw the Argentinian roster prevail 16-13 to push onward to Mirage.
There, DETONA took initial control, going up 7-4 before Gabriel "1962" Sinopoli's side began to stabilize, keeping their momentum into the second half to lead 11-8. DETONA's made an effort to get back into the map, equalizing at 13-13, but a final string of three gave Isurus the win and move the series on to Dust2, putting the Argentinian roster a single map away from qualifying.
It seemed that Isurus would make good on that effort as they started Dust2 ahead 7-1, but a resurgence from DETONA put the teams within one round of each other at the break. A pistol victory allowed Noktse and company to extend their lead to 11-7 before DETONA were able to respond, and it was here that they made their final stand. Six straight put Vinicius "vsm" Moreira's men in the lead at 13-11, but much like on Mirage, Isurus cracked through the DETONA defenses in the closing moments of the map to steal away the win 16-14 and close out the series.
